Truth Serum part two..

I was told by a few people I needed to re think my opinion on this topic. Well here is my response and I hope I have not offended anyone but….I still say some people cannot handle the truth.

It is VERY important to always tell the truth. You should never lie or deceive. If you do, you will lose people’s trust. And it doesn’t have to be a blatant lie.

From an ethical point of view the answer can be both yes and no.

Considerations in order to differ between the two could be:
Is the truth important
Is the truth harmful
What can the result be from telling a lie.

Some times the truth can be devastating for an individual that have been unfortunate. A ‘white’ lie could be in order to protect this individual from further harm.

Many times some people try to find out the truth about things that does not really matter. Often the search for truth involves actions that is unheard of. A white lie could be in order just to calm things down. but then again, if it does not really matter, then why not tell the truth and be done with it.

A white lie should not involve other people. It should only be used in order to protect unfortunate people that against their will have been involved in something bad. An accident or similar.

Parents tell their kids to tell the truth at all times but parents them selves play a masquerade with white lies in order to protect them selves and their kids quite often. It is important to teach kids the difference between a good lie and a bad one. There is a fine line between them and it is not easy to distinguish between them.

If you are in doubt of what is best, then I suggest you have a one on one chat with your mother, father, best friend or even your best friends mother or father.

If you end up with a bad conscience for telling what you thought to be a white lie, then you should have told the truth to start with. This can be corrected though. Tell the truth and point out that you made a mistake. Most people really appreciate honesty. It is very important to be honest. It is a sign of great personality. When this is said, it is also a sign of great personality to protect those that are loved and dear.

You should not protect those that willingly and knowingly have done something bad. That will only backfire and they will rely on you later to protect them. That can make you get into really bad trouble.

this point of view actually reminds me of the AA step where one is to make amends. One would make amends as long as in doing so, the person to whom amends is being made will not be unnecessarily hurt. great post and I agree 100%!

I happen to agree with both posts. Essentially, they express the same sentiment: the truth can be a force for good or for evil. Handle with care.

Difficult topic! What you think is good can be bad for me. Nobody thinks they are bad people and the road to hell is full of good intentions. Sometimes we are unaware that we are hurting people. And one act does not influence a whole life. This is a tricky topic.

I agree I think it is up to the person. When I wrote this I knew everyone has their own thoughts and ideas. I feel I try to always tell the truth. I always felt you need to speak to the person directly not to everyone else I was brought up going to a Catholic school from 1st grade to 12th grade and we were taught to tell the truth no mater what. When I got older I always taught my children to tell the truth no matter what and it was a topic we discussed often. Sometimes I think there is a fine line. Sometimes a person really needs to think about what they say and do.
