I’m frustrated by people all over the country who view the day as anything BUT a day to remember our WAR DEAD. I hate hearing “Happy Memorial Day.”
It’s not Veterans Day. It’s not military appreciation day. Don’t thank me for my service. Please don’t thank me for my service. It’s take the time to pay homage to the men and women who died while wearing the cloth of this nation you’re so freely enjoying today, day.
We’ve all heard, “Freedom isn’t free.”
Since 1776, it’s actually cost us more than 1.3 million lives.
I hope you enjoy your weekend — but I hope you pause to remember, too.

I remember that from when I was child. Every year my father would take us to the cemetery and place flowers and flags on graves.

My Mother want peonies as you could expect them to bloom for Memorial Day.

I like that

My sentiments exactly.

Agree. It is a day to visit the graves. A day of remembrance. A day of the fallen soldiers and firefighters, dead family members and friends. People who are gone but never forgotten.

Agreed my father took us to the cemetery to place flags and flowers on graves when I was younger and my sister goes and places flowers on graves she doesn’t know to show they are not forgotten.

I think it is a wonderful tradition. So does my family and I. We always walk around the cemetery, pick some weeds, straighten a flower pot… They were people once like us.

Agreed

I completely agree with this!
Someone recently who was visiting the USA from abroad, asked me what Memorial Day was about…I told them the meaning behind it but then remarked about how now it’s changed to sales at the department stores, BBQ’s in the backyard and a day off from work to go to the beach…
When did this all change from the original meaning of the holiday? I agree that people should pause today and think about those who lost their lives for our country — Thank you for posting this…

I am not sure when the meaning changed to many people since I come from a military family we always visited the graves of the fallen and family then had a picnic.
