NATIONAL BRAIN TUMOR AWARENESS MONTHMay is the month to take action on brain tumors. Driven by advancement in research, surgical techniques, genetic discoveries and much more, the BTeAM believes everyone plays a role in defeating brain tumors and brain cancer.
There are several ways to be involved. Donating and participating in fundraisers, supporting legislation for research and making clinical trials accessible are only a few of the ways to get started.
HOW TO OBSERVE
For more information visit braintumor.org and use #BTeAM to share on social media.
There are an estimated 200,000 cases of brain tumors in the United States alone each and every year. These tumors can be cancerous or noncancerous, and they can sometimes begin in the brain. However, they can also be a result of cancer that has spread from other parts of the body into the brain and its surrounding tissues. Brain tumors can range from growths that are easily operate upon to large masses that can result in death. Other treatments can include radiation and chemotherapy. Brain tumors receive the best prognosis when they are caught early on, and before any cancerous cells can spread to areas of the brain that make it too risky to be operated on. Therefore, it is very important to pay close attention to the early warning signs.
HISTORY
The National Brain Tumor Society supports National Brain Tumor Awareness Month annually.

May is World Stroke Month. Many health and heart organizations come together every May to raise awareness about the causes and effects of stroke.
One of their biggest campaigns is FAST, teaching the world to know the symptoms of stroke and how to respond quickly to help save a life.
Face – By asking the person to smile you can tell immediately if one side of the face droops.
Arm – Ask the person to raise both arms. Observe to see if one arm drifts lower than the other.
Speech – Slurred speech is a symptom of stroke. Ask the person to repeat a single sentence.
Time – Call 911-Fast. Time may be the difference between life and death or even partial and full recovery.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Visit http://www.worldstrokecampaign.org or http://www.strokeassociation.org for more information on stroke. Use #WorldStrokeMonth to post on social media.
HISTORY
Within our research, National Day Calendar was unable to identify historical information regarding the first World Stroke Month. The Centers for Disease Control, the American Heart Association, World Stroke Campaign and many other have all participated in bringing education, research, and treatment on a global basis.

May 9 recognizes a fun and unique holiday, National Lost Sock Memorial Day. It is time to say “good-bye” to all of the single socks, the ones where their mates have been lost to the unknown. Where do all the missing socks go? Is there a washing machine heaven? This is a question that people have been trying to solve for many centuries. An answer may never be found to this problem, and life will go on. How sad to have lost such a close-knit friend!
Of course, since before the dawn of Tupperware inventors have attempted the prevention of such separation anxiety. Alas, if they had succeeded mismatched socks wouldn’t be popular today. And, we there wouldn’t be National Lost Sock Memorial Day.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Now is the time to let go and move on. Clean out all of your left behind socks. Make sock puppets or recycle those old socks by reusing them as dust rags! Say your final goodbyes to your lost socks using #LostSockMemorialDay.
HISTORY
Within our research, we were unable to identify the found of National Lost Sock Memorial Day.
