The Great American Smokeout

The American Cancer Society marks the Great American Smokeout on the third Thursday of November each year by encouraging smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day. By quitting — even for one day — smokers will be taking an important step towards a healthier life – one that can lead to reducing cancer risk.

Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the US, yet about 42 million Americans still smoke cigarettes — a bit under 1 in every 5 adults. As of 2012, there were also 13.4 million cigar smokers in the US, and 2.3 million who smoke tobacco in pipes — other dangerous and addictive forms of tobacco.

For anyone who does want to quit smoking. A prop I used, that seem to work was to cut a drinking straw to the length of a cigarette, thus satisfying my hand and subconscious mind. Too, sucking through the straw emulates inhaling, giving your lungs the intake they’re accustomed to without the nicotine. After a week or two, you should be able to toss the straw for good. That method worked for me. 😉

About your post…I have only one thing to say…Why strike the branch of the tree when the real cause is the root??? Stop production of cigarettes…the rest will fall into place automatically…. We rehab one addict, there are three more in the waiting…who buy cigarettes from the same store..
So ‘Quit Smoking’ is old-school..Lets ask instead..’Ban cigarette production’..What say???

I agree but after living with my mother who smoked 2 packs a day and smoked since the late 1960 we could not get her to stop and she believed no one had a right to stop her. Sadly she died of emphysema.

The only person who was happy about this whole thing was the ‘cigarette manufacturer’, who still continues to take away many more children from their mothers.

That’s how, it is essential that we strongly protest the manufacture of cigarettes itself..cutting the tree from the roots…prevention rather than cure…

If we have wild bushes and weeds in our garden, we do not start moving the garden, but we remove the weeds instead..
I sincerely pray for your mothers soul..May her rest in peace..
