About 🙋

I have always felt that “It’s up to you to make your dream come true and take the first step”.

I am retired from the US Airforce (35 Years) and I want to share my life, the interesting and fantastic things I have done.

My blog is about the things I like to do and share. Scrapbooking, crafts, love to cook and thoughts that makes a person think. I have just recently taken up photography, my favorites, the wildlife in my backyard. I have spent my life traveling and meeting people from all over the world and I want to share my pictures and thoughts about all the traveling. The next best thing is sharing about my family and my favorite recipes. A favorite quote of mine is “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind….it doesn’t  matter” Mark Twain

I have traveled to so many places. Some for work and some for fun. I have been to Italy, United Kingdom, Ireland, Wales, Spain, Newfoundland, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Belize, Roatan, Martinque, Cozumel, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios, Bahamas, Bermuda, San Juan, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Massachusetts, New York, North and South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Guam, Toronto, Azores, Mexico, Our Nations Capital, Nevada, Oklahoma, Hawaii Islands and Indiana. Copenhagen, Normandy France, Belgium, Paris and the Netherlands.

The four reasons I joined the Air Force are:

  1. My family
  2. I wanted to travel
  3. Meet people from all over the world
  4. Learn a job so when I retired I would be prepared for the civilian life

My fathers father was in the Switzerland Military and it went from there. His five brothers along with my father joined the military at an early age. Along with them many of my cousins joined and their children. I would have to say that the military is in my blood. When I retired I was the last of the women in the military from our family but there are many men still in.

The military opened my eyes to a life I am so glad that I made. From meeting people, learning a job, the travel is unbelievable and protecting our country.

I started in the US Air Force in 1979. I was Active Duty and then went on to be an Active Guard Reserve (AGR) in the US Air Force. My first job was an Environmentalist I protected the men and women exposed to noise, chemicals, heat and cold. I did much more, but my main job was to protect airman from getting ill from their job and environment. My next job was a field medic and I was the medical person for our Security Police. And also at that time I was a Public Heath NCOIC. That job is just like your local Health Department. With this job I prepared personnel to deploy to a war situation.

The military allowed me to take college classes so I completed my BA in Psychology before I retired.

I think the most important thing that happened to me was meeting my husband of 18 years.  We were in the same Medical Unit in Michigan but we really did not know each other. We started dating at David Grant Medical Center in California ended up working at the 127th Medical Group in Michigan than on to a CRTC Base in Upper Michigan than down to the 110th Medical Group also in Michigan. My husband now works for the Army. What is funny is my husband is from San Antonio Texas and I am from lower Michigan. If we had not met him in the military I would not have a best friend and a husband.

I am very proud to have served but I have now retired and moving on to a new life. From wearing combat boots and ABUs to dresses and heels.

I love scrapbooking and I have made many books for family but I am now working on a book of my career. I also like making crafts from old used pieces. I started scrapbooking when I needed to learn to relax. What started out as something to do once in awhile turned into much more. I became a dealer for a scrapbook company and started scrapbooking on weekends. My craft room could be a small craft store.

Before I joined the military I was a butcher at the family store which led to catering and that is how I learned my love of cooking. When I tell people I was a butcher at one time I don’t think they believe me. I really enjoyed the job but I wanted much more.

I hope you enjoy my blog, this is something new for me.

Was going over my stats page on my list of followers this evening when I discovered your follow over a couple of months ago.
Honestly don’t know how you “fell through the cracks” as the saying goes, but I am truly sincerely sorry that I have missed out in over 2 months of following you in return, and feel dreadful.
Looking forward to making up lost time, and spending time here.
    Sincerely,
    ~Carl~

Hello, this is first time I read something in your blog and really I like it! I am very irregular blogger so I have taken a long time to read your blog. I did not know you were in US Air Force. Interesting matter is, my father was in Army and my uncle is in Air Force. But, that is not the reason to choose your blog of course. I like your writing! Best wishes!

Hey there– I hope all is well and that you are enjoying your family during the holiday season! I wanted to drop you a quick line to let you know I posted an interview I did with a fellow blogger a couple of weeks ago, and she mentioned your blog in the interview as one of her favorites. I linked to your from the post– hope that’s ok!

If you’re interested in taking a look, it’s on the “Interviews” page of my site. It will be the one listed as “Interview #4…”, it’s with Terri Webster-Schrandt. I thought you’d probably like to know in case you wanted to reach out and thank her. 🙂

Serving one’s country is the best thing one can do. Unfortunately, most of us don’t have it in us. We are too caught up in the rat race of making money and corporate careers to even think about this. Really great to read how your family has all been in the army! And how you have found your calling in writing and the arts! Must be a very different life from the army now. Thanks for following my blog. Look forward to reading your’s.

Hello from Türkiye… just wanted to say “thank you”, I appreciate your recent ‘follow’, knowing how many interesting and entertaining blogs there are out there.

Blogging since June 2013, my little corner of the world tries to offer an eclectic smattering of posts, from basic amateur photography, to sharing my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day-to-day happenings here on our fruit farm in southern Turkey. I also throw in a few of my observations on life and lighter-hearted stuff for good measure.

You are more than welcome to have a look around, stay a while and have a trawl through my collection. There are plenty of categories within the drop-down menus to help in said digging process.

Hope you have a great day…

What a great bio page. I enjoyed just reading that! Thank you for following my blog. Always glad to meet new people here. Charlotte and I have a nephew who is very close to us, in the Army. He has been to Iraq and Germany, and is now stationed in North Carolina. I have great respect for you and him, and everyone else who has made a career serving in the Armed Forces. I am following your blog too – it is already too late tonight for me so tomorrow I will start digging through it!

I love how varied your life has been… as a traveller too, this really appeals to me. From combat boots to scrapbooking to butcher… what interesting choices you have made along the way. I love scrapbooking as well but have found the blogging thing is replacing it. So much easier to post my photos this way! I look forward to reading more. Have a fantastic day. Cheryl
